Math Bumpies – addition and subtraction practice wrapped in an Island game

This was a recommendation a friend who also has a 5 year old boy. His son loves this little math adventure/obstacle course. Sal did not have the same longevity with this game, spiking in interest for a few days and then abandoning it. Different apps appeal to different kids. If you’re looking for a fun way for your kid to practice addition and subtraction, Math Bumpies is a good contender to try out if your kid, especially if your kid enjoys motion control games.

The game let’s you choose your character and whether you want to do just addition, just subtraction, or both as well as level of difficulty. I always appreciate when games give your lil’n some choices to work their way up. Your character is some time of rolling character who you roll down the course, through harder and harder obstacles. Along the way you’ll come across several math problems where you need to jump your guy to knock into the correct answer by tapping your screen. Sal delighted in this, but was also a little frustrated as well when he wouldn’t time his guy right and the momentum of his bumpie would pass up the right answer by the time it jumped. You have a set amount of time to finish the course, which is a good challenge in clearing some of the levels.
