The idea drew me in. You color in characters, except as you’re coloring them in, they react to your coloring. Your brush strokes actually ‘tickle’ the creatures you’re coloring in, and they giggle and react hysterically to your actions.
But within a few seconds, the application made me realize I had fallen for some good marketing again. Granted, I was only trying the lite version, but the authors don’t seem to say that the actions of the characters are limited in the lite version – only the number of characters are limited.
Eyes pop out. There’s a giggle or a little shock. But that’s about all. It can be entertaining the first time, but I didn’t see any lasting interest to it. Or anything to keep one engaged after the initial surprise as worn off. There is a second coloring mode, “reveal”, which mimics some of the books you’ll find in the airport with magic markers. There, you just get eyes and must “color” the rest of the page to reveal the creature underneath. It is probably more enjoyable to play in reveal mode first, then the actual creature you find is more of a treat.
Though younger kids might enjoy the repetition more, I would guess they would soon grow out of it. Unless of course, you shell out the 99 cents and get the extra characters. Then you’ll get a bit more mileage out of it. And it is only 99 cents…
